Which office?
Where it goes depends on who issued the document
There's no single apostille office for every document. We work this out before we send a quote.
Issued by a U.S. state
Birth and marriage certificates, court records, notarized documents. Usually the Secretary of State of the state that issued or notarized the document.
Issued by a federal agency
For example FBI background checks or other federal records. These go to the U.S. Department of State, not to a state office.
Issued in another country
An apostille can only be issued in the country where the document was issued. We explain the options and what can be done in the U.S., such as a certified translation.

Questions
Does every country accept an apostille?
Only countries that are party to the Hague Apostille Convention. For other countries a different process (legalization through an embassy) applies; we tell you which one fits.
Do I need the original?
Usually an original or a certified copy issued by the official office is required. A plain photocopy is generally not enough. We confirm the requirement for your document.
How long does it take?
It depends on the issuing office and shipping. We give you an estimate with the quote and update you at each step.
